Sid Vishvamitra Jordan, Executive Director, Documentary Film

This documentary film project that dramatically captures the impact of Neohumanist education and services to mankind and nature has produced over 200 hours of film footage over the last year in the US, Europe, India and Bali. Now it is continuing with filming in Africa, Thailand and Portugal in the first half of this year. A film clip of the documentary, edited and narrated by the cinematographer, Kevin Krpadiisha Peer, was shared with approximately 35-40 attendees of an Ananda Marga Gurukul Gathering at the Neohumanist College of Asheville and Prama Institute in Asheville, NC in September. A fundraising campaign will begin in November to support the completion of shooting and editing of the film which is expected to be finished in 2025. Neohumanist Education Online Seminar, New York Sector

On November 18 (2023), Dada Shambushivananda (Kulapati of Gurukul), Dr. Carlos A. Torre and Dr. Kathleen Kesson engaged in a panel presentation for the “Spiritual Festival,” an online seminar organized by Ácárya Diiptimanánanda Avadhúta in the New York sector. Dr. Torre is a professor at Southern Connecticut State University and Dr. Kesson is Professor Emerita from Long Island University-Brooklyn Campus, and also the Program Director and Faculty in the Neohumanist Teacher Preparation program of the Neohumanist College of Asheville. Dr. Torre gave an overview of his five year project in the New Haven public schools, which aimed to institute a more progressive, holistic model of learning throughout the district. Dr. Kesson gave a brief overview of her forthcoming book, Becoming One With the World: A Guide to Neohumanist Education, which will be available soon through Information Age Publishing. They had a wide-ranging discussion on topics such as a “village model” for education, which develops closer partnerships between schools and communities, the importance of ensuring strong connections with local culture and languages, the centrality of service and service learning in Neohumanist schools, the aim to “decolonize” education, and the role of meditation and kirtan in Neohumanist schools.
