We are One and Indivisible

Ac. Shambhushivananda Avt.

Astronauts returning from the International Space Station have once again asserted that this earth has no borders as seen from outer space. All living beings are citizens of Earth and it is high time to accept the basic fact that human society is one and indivisible. There is no reason to fight over land and resources or to spend trillions of dollars on boosting our defense capabilities against one another. Instead, we should invest in raising our consciousness and living with a greater understanding of each other’s common desire for safety, security, and affluence.

Our slogan must not only be “Make America Great Again”, “Make India Great Again” or “Make only our country or region great again” but “Let us make the entire Earth peaceful and prosperous for all creatures—not just humans.” World leaders must come together in the spirit of One Universal Family to create a world where all may co-exist just like a joint family. No one is our enemy and children of the earth are the progeny of Universal Cosmic Consciousness.

All the resources of the earth are the common patrimony of all of humanity and must be utilized for the welfare of all. The current collective net worth of 2,775 billionaires is $13.1 trillion. In a civilized world, there should be minimum disparities. Hence, there must be limits to material accumulation by a few, and there should be maximum utilization of all potentialities and rational distribution of all resources.

Furthermore, the purchasing power of one and all must be increased so that no one is deprived of their share. We must live to serve and share, and not to accumulate and bolster personal consumption, with little concern for other human beings and all other creatures. The good for one should be the good of all and the good of all should also be the good for each microcosm.

Every entity in this creation is unique, different in some way, and maintains a unique connection with the source of creation through unique, individual association, termed ota-yoga in Sanskrit. From a spiritual perspective, even sub-atomic particles possess cosmic cognition as microvita emanations.

Our uniqueness also makes for collective differences. For example, humans may be similar though vary in physiognomy and physical form or intrinsic attributes. It is as if geographical and climatic differences have veiled the fundamental oneness of humanity and thereby established the ethos of “Unity in Diversity” on Earth.

Throughout the plant, animal, and human worlds, similarities are shared within the same species and vary greatly in comparison with or relative to other species or life-forms. Still, despite all our disparities and differences, there is an invisible link that unites us all with the source of creation, termed prota-yoga, “pervasive association”.

Our true identity is indeed defined by identification with the inherent universal consciousness. The sooner we realize our universal connection, the sooner we shall go beyond discord, disputes, conflicts, and ugly wars. The path of spirituality is to strengthen the realization of the universal bond that unites us all.

Discord can be minimized through rational thinking that preserves the existential rights of all creatures. The interests of all peoples and all creatures must be maintained at any cost. This is the challenge of genuine well-wishers and the leaders of human society. Through mutual respect, communication, engagement, dialogue, negotiations, cooperative mindset, collaboration, and empathy we can begin to build a stable human society. Only by peace and stability can we eliminate hunger and poverty; bring liberty to all; and ensure unity and harmony among all species.

We have still not built one human society. We continue to be divided by race, colour, religion, caste, national identity, and other apparent divergences. We allow the flimsy veil of disparities to create division between man and man, between one creature and another.

Separate habitats need to be created for creatures according to the needs of their elán-vital, prána dharma. We need to create learning environments for all beings so they can evolve to their highest potential for the greater good of the entire creation. The fundamental moral imperative is not to hurt others but to impart joy and happiness to others through selfless actions.

Albert Einstein rightly said: “The fate of humanity is entirely dependent upon its moral development.” A stable society cannot be built without moral foundations. The loftiest edifices need the strongest foundations. Morality is the base, intuitional practice is the way, and life divine is the goal.

Technological innovations that relegate human beings to being mere consumers are a potential bane for human society. Human beings must be treated as the custodians of the mundane, intellectual, and spiritual wealth of collective humanity.

Artificial intelligence is merely an augmented intelligence that extends the powers of the human mind. What the cosmic mind has been doing until today will continue to be done, in gradual steps, by unit minds and their appliances. The moral imperative is to recognize the infinite power of the spirit over mind and matter.

When we make minds subservient to matter, we depreciate the glorious position of humans in this creation. Universal Cosmic spirit must guide the human mind and establish dynamic equilibrium and equipoise among material, psychic, and spiritual potentialities. A world of balance and harmony among all planes of existence alone can ensure long-lasting peace and stability in this world.

Civilization and culture must stay ahead of technology. Economic and political power in the hands of self-centered individuals is a sure recipe for wars and disputes. Only benevolent leaders guided by the highest ideals can build a world of peace and tranquility.

It is a global necessity now to elect strong leaders who are selfless, universally minded, and rational. Leaders imbued with love and pragmatic intelligence will bring heaven to earth. Our educational systems should also focus on preparing such inspirational leaders and global citizens.

Five-point Plan for Facing Global Challenges:
  • Encourage global multilateral and bilateral agreements to put limits on global defense spending and nuclear proliferation, and to build security pacts to protect every nation from attack by any other in order to allow people to live in freedom without fears.
  • Tackle wealth disparities by putting limits on wealth accumulation. Divert surplus wealth for collective good and upgrade the purchasing capacity of all global citizens.
  • Foster regional economic self-reliance and utilize global innovations and technology to benefit all of humanity as well as flora and fauna.
  • Nurture social movements which provide unbarred expression to each unique culture, languages, belief systems, customs, rituals and diversities prevalent in human society.
  • Raise consciousness through Neohumanist education, psycho-spiritual practices, universal social outlook, rational thinking and wisdom-centered lifestyles.

The world should be freed from terror of all kinds. There should be a global consensus on zero-tolerance towards violence and terror on innocent citizens of the world. No person or creature should ever have to suffer from violence of any kind anywhere on this earth. It is our collective duty to create conditions so no one has to suffer due to pressures of circumstances. This is the challenge for our generation and for world leadership.
